There are cities you visit, enjoy and remember.
And then there is Venice.
Venice has a way of staying with you.
It is not only the famous landmarks, the Grand Canal or Piazza San Marco. It is the sound of footsteps in a quiet alley, the reflection of old palazzi in the water, a gondola disappearing around a corner, the first coffee of the morning, and the feeling of discovering something beautiful when you least expect it.
That feeling is the reason I created Smart Venice.
I Wanted to Show More Than the Famous Venice
Most people arrive in Venice with the same list:
Piazza San Marco.
Rialto Bridge.
A gondola ride.
The Grand Canal.
And of course, these places are beautiful and absolutely worth seeing.
But for me, the real magic of Venice often begins just a few streets away.
A quiet canal in Castello.
A small café hidden behind a busy square.
A beautiful bridge with almost nobody crossing it.
A local restaurant you might never find if you only followed the main tourist routes.
Those are the moments I want Smart Venice to help people discover.
Venice Is a City to Experience Slowly
One of the things I love most about Venice is that it makes you slow down.
There are no cars rushing past you.
You walk.
You cross bridges.
You stop beside the water.
Sometimes you take the wrong turn — and discover somewhere even more beautiful than the place you were looking for.
Venice is not a city that should feel like a checklist.
It is a city to experience.
That idea became one of the foundations of Smart Venice.
Why Self-Guided Tours?
I love the freedom of discovering a city independently.
Sometimes you want to spend ten minutes somewhere. Sometimes you want to stay for an hour. Perhaps you discover a café you love, stop for lunch or simply sit beside a canal and enjoy the atmosphere.
A traditional guided tour does not always give you that flexibility.
That is why I started creating Smart Venice Self-Guided Tours.
The idea is simple:
You receive a carefully planned route, Google Maps navigation, local recommendations and hidden places — but you decide how quickly or slowly you explore.
No large group.
No fixed schedule.
No rushing.
Just Venice at your own pace.
The Venice I Want You to Discover
Smart Venice is not about pretending that the famous sights do not exist.
It is about combining them with the quieter, more authentic side of the city.
I want visitors to see Piazza San Marco, but also wander through Castello.
To cross the Rialto Bridge, but also discover the small bridges hidden in residential neighborhoods.
To enjoy an elegant restaurant, but also experience a simple local bacaro.
To take beautiful photographs — and still remember to put the phone away and simply enjoy the view.
Because often the moments we remember most from a journey are not the ones we planned.
Food Is Part of the Experience
Another thing I love about Venice is the way food becomes part of the rhythm of the city.
A coffee and pastry in the morning.
Cicchetti at a traditional bacaro.
A plate of pasta or seafood for lunch.
Gelato while walking through the streets.
An aperitivo beside the water in the evening.
Finding the right places can make a huge difference to a trip, which is why restaurants, cafés and gelaterias have become an important part of Smart Venice too.
I want travellers to spend less time searching through hundreds of reviews and more time actually enjoying Venice.
From Travel Guides to Venice Memories
Smart Venice gradually became more than travel information.
I wanted to create something people could take home with them too.
That is how the illustrated postcards and notebooks became part of the project.
Each design is inspired by a place, a view or a small moment in Venice.
A gondolier.
Palazzo Tetta.
A quiet canal.
Piazza San Marco.
The Grand Canal.
A café table waiting for the morning coffee.
For me, they are not simply souvenirs.
They are little reminders of a journey.
A way to keep a piece of Venice after you have returned home.
Travel, Design & Memories
Today, Smart Venice brings together three things I love:
Travel. Design. Memories.
The travel guides help you prepare and explore.
The self-guided tours accompany you through the city.
And the illustrated products help you remember the experience afterwards.
That is exactly what I want Smart Venice to be.
Not simply another Venice travel website.
But a place that helps you experience Venice in a more personal, relaxed and beautiful way.
Why Venice Continues to Inspire Me
Venice is never exactly the same twice.
The light changes.
The water changes.
The atmosphere changes with the seasons and the time of day.
A canal that feels busy in the afternoon can feel completely magical early in the morning.
A familiar square can suddenly look different in the evening light.
There is always another bridge to cross, another hidden corner to discover and another reason to come back.
And perhaps that is what I love most about Venice:
You never really finish discovering it.
Welcome to Smart Venice
If Smart Venice can help you discover one beautiful place you would otherwise have missed, find a restaurant you remember for years, enjoy a peaceful walk away from the crowds or simply feel a little more confident exploring the city on your own, then the project has achieved what I hoped it would.
Take your time.
Follow the canals.
Get a little lost.
And discover your own Venice.
Welcome to Smart Venice.
Enjoy Venice. The smart way.
